Hi, I'm currently writing a novel,
I show what I've written to my friends and they like my ideas and what I've got. But the criticism I mostly get is that I write too fast and that my chapters are too short.

So, how can I improve and make my chapters last longer?

So far the answer I get the most is add details about the environment.

The best way to improve your writing is to read, read and read! Study best selling writers, classic writers, short-story writers - and try to understand why their work has been published.
Writers are a diverse bunch, each writer working in the best way for them.
Bewary of advice and criticism from friends - for they are your friends and may not be too critical of your work in case they upset you.
There really is no easy way to be a writer whose work will hit the bookstores - so be prepared for many set-backs and gathering a mass of publisher's reject slips!
