Is Satan the Devil, as described in Genesis, real or a metaphor for evil inclinations within humans?

I agree with all the Biblical answers many very good ones here that he is real, he is evil, he seeks to destroy, and denying his existence is very dangerous.

Yes I believe Satanis real. We as humans are born into a ssin filledworld and have our own free will concerning whom we will serve, Satan or God. The bible speaks about the fall in the garden of Eden where satan tempted Eve (wwomen'ssin nature is pride and independence, she made the choice) and Eve in turn gave the apple to Adam (mans sin nature is to be lazy and passive) I am speaking of sspiritualthings. The bible states in John 10:10- the devil comes to kill steal and destroy, I (Jesus) came that you might have life to aabundance I also believe that our nation has been blinded by our sin natures and that when we allowed prayer to be taken out of school, politics and put Him(God) in our cozy little boxes, only to be brought out when in dire need or worse, to blame Him for wrong/bad things. That we have gone done a road that only when we humble ourselves before God and pray, that only then will He hear us and heal our land. I realize a lot of people don't agree with this, I would challenge you to seek God and His way of doing things, and He will answer you. If I am wrong then you can continue to live in your ways, if I am write then the God of creation will show Himself to you. But do this with a seeking heart , not demanding because our rrighteousnesswithout God is as dirty rags. God bless you all!!!

Satan's body was taken from him by God. Now he can only work in the spiritual realm. He enters peoples spirits. And in Eva's case he entered a snake and tempted Eva through the snake. Satan has no power over a person that belongs to God only if God allows it. And like Job if God allows it, it is for a good reason.

We are told in so many places in the bible that Satan is very real and very active in the world today. We are also told that a place has been reserved for him, his angels and all those that refuse to accept Christ. A symbolic lake of fire that will torment all that are there forever.

It is symbolic as we will all have spiritual bodies like the angels and like the angels (including Satan) we can never die, so God has given us a word picture of how bad it will be for those that reject Christ.

Some CULTS like the JWs, not only reject Christ as being God, they also reject the idea of an eternal punishment. They will be the ones that will join Satan and his angels in that eternal suffering.

You'll have to quote the passage from Genesis because neither Satan or devil occur there. We do have the mention of the serpent in the garden of Eden, but outside of that I don't think Genesis speaks of a personal evil anywhere.

The serpent in the garden is representative of a real person. As to what extent the story in the garden is figurative or not is hard to tell, but we can be assured it represents a real person who is able to tempt people.
