Many people dont even know what Defragment does and if you knew exactly what it does, then you will know it has nothing to do with making your computer run faster...
In Layman Terms: When a computer writes to a hard drive it puts them in blocks on the disk... These blocks get filled, then the next block, then the next block... at times not all the times, that file gets deleted... so now you have a gap between the blocks of data... or free space. A computer already knows where that free space is and can write to it easy, but its still a gap. This process goes on and on which can leave your hard drive very fragmented... with many gaps...
DeFrag takes all the free space and pushes them to the "back" of the disk and the filled data to the front therefore making a continuous data blocks and making sure no gaps of free space.
The only good time to defrag is when you install say a 5gb programe such as a game and then say months later you uninstall that game... now you just left 5gbs gap of data which should be defraged. Only defrag when you uninstall many programs.
